About This Product

Black steel pipe is ERW steel pipe with no galvanized or painted coating on its surface. Turgut Boru keeps black steel pipe in stock at our Ostim warehouse with plain (unthreaded) ends. Our list tables cover TS EN 10255 water pipe sizes from 1/2" (21.3 x 2.60 mm) to 6" (165.1 x 5.00 mm). For lines that need a thicker wall or higher pressure, TS EN 10217-1 black pressure pipes are supplied in 21.3 – 323.9 mm outside diameter and 2.00 – 10.00 mm wall thickness. The standard length is 6 meters; straightness tolerance is 1 mm/m. Applications include drinking and domestic water, hot water, central heating, air-conditioning, compressed air and fire-fighting lines. Testing and Inspection

All pipes used in drinking and domestic water, hot water, central heating, air-conditioning, fire-fighting and air installations undergo non-destructive inspection with Eddy Current testing and a 50 bar hydrostatic leak test. Medium series pipes can be used for water at operating pressures up to 25 bar.

Anti-Rust Painted Water Pipes

Water pipes are also supplied anti-rust painted. Anti-rust paint protects the outer surface of the pipe against corrosion; the manufacturer's standard colors are red (RAL 3009) and black (RAL 9005). Painted pressure-resistant water pipes are produced to TS EN 10217-1. The size range is 1/2" (21.3 mm) – 12" (323.9 mm) outside diameter, 2.00 – 10.00 mm wall thickness. Concealed / Under-Floor Installations

If the installation has to run under plaster or through the floor, the pipes must not come into contact with materials such as mortar made with unwashed sea sand, lime-based building materials, rubble or slag. A route away from wet ground should be followed. After the plumbing is laid, the system should be leak tested and the joints checked for water leaks. Embedded installations must be cut off from water and air; for this, the pipes should be bitumen-coated or fully painted with bitumen-based paint (chassis paint). After this painting, the pipes should also be covered with a 2-3 cm thick layer of high-dosage cement, leaving no voids. Pipes must never be wrapped in water-retaining materials such as paper (tar paper can be used because it does not retain water).

Laying in Soil

Some soils have an acidic effect. Since it is rarely possible to know the nature of the soil, the pipes should be insulated with tar paper or, best of all, a bitumen-based material for the pipeline to have a long service life. In short, if galvanized steel pipes must pass through any fill material or be used under plaster, they must be cut off from water and air; for this they should be fully painted with bitumen-based paint and sealed with concrete.
